Super-hydrophobic application: no blood-sucking hemostatic gauze comes out to reduce blood loss by 60%
Edit:Shangmeng Technology Wuxi Co., Ltd.   UpDate:2018-02-03

The use of medical gauze to wrap wounds is our most common and most common method of hemostasis. The mechanism is that gauze absorbs water from the blood and concentrates blood cells and blood coagulation factors to promote blood coagulation. However, the problem of excessive absorption of blood by conventional medical gauze has long been neglected, often resulting in excessive bleeding of the wound. In severe cases, the patient will still die due to excessive blood loss. The reporter learned from the Chinese Academy of Sciences that after a lot of experiments, Chinese scientists have developed a hemostatic gauze that does not suck blood.

Traditional medical gauze uses pressure to compress the blood vessels of the wound when the wound is wound, so that the blood outflow rate of the wound is slowed down, but the traditional gauze absorbs a large amount of blood. The Institute of Polymer Physics and Chemistry, Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhao Ning, Xu Jian, Researcher Group, and Professor Shao Longquan of Southern Medical University have designed a new concept of hemostatic material from the perspective of hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity of materials (gauze). Traditional gauze has a problem of excessive blood sucking during use.

They use nanotechnology to construct medical long-chain alkanes into micro-nanostructures on the surface of traditional gauze fibers, transforming conventional gauze from blood-sparing to blood-sparing properties, ie, the blood on the surface of the treated gauze cannot be infiltrated; Further, the hemorrhagic gauze is superimposed with the conventional gauze double layer, and the lower layer of conventional gauze is used to promote blood coagulation, and the upper layer of the hemostatic gauze is used to generate negative pressure to prevent blood from being wetted and infiltrated, thereby achieving effective hemostasis and reducing blood loss. .

A large number of animal experiments show that compared with traditional medical gauze, the new hemostatic gauze can significantly reduce blood loss by about 60%. In addition, the use of a new hemostatic gauze can increase the survival time of experimental mice by about 40% in the case of carotid hemorrhage. This gauze is expected to give patients more time to save.

It is understood that the research results provide a new idea for the design of high-efficiency hemostatic materials, and its hemostatic gauze has applied for national invention patents. Related papers were recently published online in the international academic journal Advanced Medical Materials.
